Data Breaches: the dam is leaking

Way too many data breaches and unauthorized access to personal information happening. These leaks and gaps need to be rectified.

Some examples:

Facebook acknowledged in April 2018 that it may have improperly shared personal data of over 87 million of its users with Cambridge Analytica.

It was confirmed in January 2018 that criminals were able to access and install RAM-scraping malware on Jason’s Deli's point-of-sale terminals. They stole customers’ credit card information, including cardholder names, credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates, cardholder verification values and service codes located on the magnetic stripe on payment cards. The information relating to as many as 2 million payment cards was sold on the dark web.

StartFragmentOrbitz announced in March 2018 that it discovered a possible data breach by a hacker who used an old website to access customer payment-card and other personal information during 2016 and 2017. Personal information such as birthdays, addresses, full names, phone numbers, email addresses and gender of 880,000 consumers was accessed. EndFragment

StartFragmentIt was confirmed in April 2018 by Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), the owner of Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor that more than 5 million credit and debit cards data was stolen by hackers, which began in May 2017. The hackers have so far sold the information from 125,000 payment cards on the dark web.EndFragment

StartFragmentTaskRabbit confirmed in June 2018 a data breach that affected more than 3.75 million users. A hacker obtained the names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and bank account numbers of both customers and workers.EndFragment
